What is the expected recovery from shoulder replacement surgery? It is doing excellent on all planes.
When you look at the human shoulder, what do people want from it? Well, they want motion, strength, and no pain. They don’t want it to hurt, ever. Shoulder replacements are very good at improving motion, amazing at improving pain, and pretty good at improving strength.
When we have patients rate their shoulder after they get their shoulder replaced by us, on average, when they’re going into the surgery, they’re around 50% of normal. This is what they say: 50% of all those things.
When they come out, they’re around 90% of normal. There’s 90% motion and 90% strength, and a lot of times, 90% plus pain relief in terms of what they had before—radically better than what they were before.
I wish we could make everybody perfect. Some patients say it’s perfect. They say, “I feel nothing, it’s perfectly normal.” But the average is way, way better than what we started with.
